The master plan includes an extension of Main Street from the Town Center district across Lono Avenue and into what we would refer to as the Residential Mixed-Use District and through to Kaahumanu Center.

Within the Residential Mixed-Use District, there are two residential/commercial projects currently being developed. These projects include the Kahului Town Center Student Housing project, currently under construction, and the ‘Āina o Kane Commercial mixed-use project, scheduled to begin construction in 2007. We would also propose future redevelopment of the remaining underutilized parcels within this district be mixedÐuse with residential that would compliment the existing two projects.

All future projects within this district are encouraged to align the structures facing to the Main Street with a continuation of the pedestrian oriented theme established in the Town Center District. On-site parking within each development lot facing the Main Street is to be located behind the building structures and not developed as large expansive parking lots visible from the main street.
