In 1948 A&B hired Harland Bartholomew, one of the United States best known planners, to plan a new city that would create affordable housing for it's employees and the people of Maui. It was hailed as the "Dream City" for the promise it promised, a modern, planned community that would make it possible for many to purchase their first home. This promise was fulfilled and Kahului began to grow.
